Introduction

We’re beyond thrilled to introduce Cecilia J. RuckerĀ as our Transgender Community GlambassadorĀ and Southern Highlands correspondentĀ for The Real Homosexuals of the Southern Highlands. Cecilia brings not only lived experience and authenticity but also decades of connection to our region, making her the perfect voice to help us tell the stories that matter most.

With over 40 years of ties to the Highlands (and a 12-year detour in Goulburn), Cecilia has witnessed the evolution of our community firsthand. She has stood tall, proud, and unapologetic - and now she’s here to amplify voices, celebrate diversity, and help us grow this movement together.

Pride and Connection in the Highlands

In Cecilia’s own words:

ā€œAs an out, loud and proud transgender woman who is proud to call this region her home for over 40 years (well, technically, it’s 28 years, I did spend some time in the Goulburn area for 12 of them) pride and connection in the Highlands means being a positive, vibrant and uplifting role model and inspiring others to be their true, authentic selves. In addition, I also connect and work with people from all aspects of life and help spread and raise awareness of our community throughout the region.ā€

Celebrating Pride Every Day

In Cecilia’s own words:

ā€œPride in the region is an all-year-round celebration for me with my role owning and operating a sole trader, not-for-profit business. Outside of the business and corporate realm, I often doll up and get my geek chic glam on and proudly walk (in appropriate high heels of course!) the streets of Bowral and Mittagong! Of course, there are the usual events such as the Mardi Gras, Wear It Purple and International Pride Month, but, for me, it’s all year round for the entire 365 days of the year!ā€

Excited for a New Movement

In Cecilia’s own words:

ā€œThis new movement will bolster, grow, and promote the community in the region like never before. We have come a long way in the last ten years since I returned to the Highlands in 2016. Back then, I couldn’t be my true, authentic self in the community without some sort of drama or commotion taking place. With the population continuing to grow and flourish in the next decade, we now have a dedicated network ready to take on the challenge of making this region an inclusive and diverse place to live, work and even play for not just this generation, but for those just starting out on their journey.ā€
