Introduction
We are absolutely ecstatic to announce that Kara Zmatiq, the live-singing drag queen hailed as the “Queen of the Highlands” and known nationwide for dazzling performances (including Australia’s Got Talent), has joined The Real Homosexuals of the Southern Highlands as our Glambassador for Arts, Culture & Entertainment.
With a career spanning over a decade, Kara has performed across Australia, built a national network of 150+ entertainers, and continues to inspire audiences with unapologetic authenticity, powerful live vocals, and flamboyant artistry. Now, Kara is bringing that same energy and passion home to the Southern Highlands to spotlight our region’s vibrant arts scene and elevate queer creativity to new heights.

Pride and Connection Through Performance
In Kara’s own words:
“For me, drag is not just about entertainment, it’s about connection, visibility, and liberation. Every song I sing and every stage I step onto is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as a community and to remind people that the arts are a powerful force for change. The Highlands is home, and I want every queer person here to feel like their voice, their story, and their creativity matter.”
Celebrating Arts & Culture Every Day
Kara’s glittering career has taken them from cabaret stages to festivals, theatres, and corporate galas, yet their heart is deeply rooted in community. Whether belting out a Kylie anthem, hosting cheeky drag bingo, or producing cabaret showcases in regional venues, Kara embodies the idea that pride, art, and culture are not limited to city lights.
“We don’t have to wait for Sydney Mardi Gras to celebrate pride - it’s every show, every gathering, every moment of queer joy we create here in the Highlands. I’m passionate about turning our small-town venues into world-class stages and giving our community the chance to shine.”

Excited for a New Movement
Kara believes this new movement of The Real Homosexuals will transform the cultural fabric of the Southern Highlands.
“This is more than a network, it’s a revolution of creativity, diversity, and visibility. The Highlands has such incredible talent and heart, and together we can make it a region that doesn’t just accept LGBTQI+ people, but celebrates us loudly and proudly. I want to see our community dancing in the streets, singing in the theatres, and telling stories that matter.”
